Mbaruku Ali Vyakweli is a professional water sector communication expert with a wealth of experience spanning over 10 years. He holds a BA degree in Economics and Political Science from Panjab University (India), MA in International Politics from University of Bombay (India), Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication and an MA in Mass Communication both from University of Nairobi (Kenya).

He has been the Head of Corporate Affairs department of Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd for over 11 years. He served as African Water Association (AfWA) Vice President for Scientific and Technical Council (STC) March 2016upto February 2018. He was elected to the International Steering Committee of the UNHABITAT’s Global Water Operators Partnership Alliance (GWOPA)consecutively for a two- term period of three year each upto 2016.

During this period he was instrumental in the growth of Water Operators Partnership initiative that saw water utilities in East Africa benchmarking with counterparts in West Africa and Southern Africa. During this time Nairobi Water grew to become mentor to many utilities in Africa including Nigeria, Malawi, Zambia and Ghana. He contributed immensely in successful hosting of theInternational Water Association (IWA) 3RD Development Congress in 2013 and 18th Africa Water Association (AfWA) International Congress & Exhibition-2016 in Nairobi respectively and awarding of the forthcoming World Water Forum in 2021 in Senegal. Mr. Vyakweli is currently an Alternate Governor of the World Water Council (WWC) Board of Governors (BoG) serving first term and an Advisory Board Member of the Geneva based Global Institute for Water, Environment and Health (GIWEH). He is also a certified member of Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK).
